We hope our website has answered many of your questions about naming the University of Minnesota Foundation in your will or living trust. Here are some actions to take to learn more about this flexible way to support our mission in the future.

  • Download a free guide about passing on your values through your will or living trust.
  • Just a few sentences in your will or trust are all that is needed.

The official bequest language for the University of Minnesota Foundation is: "I give [the sum, percentage, or description of property] to the University of Minnesota Foundation, Minneapolis, Minnesota, to be used for the benefit of [the name of the campus, college or program]." NOTE: Gifts may be designated to benefit existing funds, or (for gifts $25,000 and above) to create new endowed funds. In these cases, it would be appropriate to also add “in accordance with the terms of a separate Memorandum of Agreement." Gifts may also be designated as unrestricted, in which case the phrase "to be used for its general tax exempt purposes but without other restrictions to use" may be substituted.

  • Contact Planned Giving at 612-624-3333 or 800-775-2187 or with any questions you have, or to let us know of your charitable plans.
