Advancement/Alumni Relations Staff Bill Burma Vice President for Advancement bburma@grandview.edu 515-263-2975 Bill Burma was named Vice President for Advancement in 2000. A native of Allison, Iowa, Bill earned his Bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Iowa in 1986 and a Master’s degree from Colorado State University in 2000. He has over 20 years of fundraising experience including the Denver Area Council Boy Scouts, Colorado State University and St. Anthony’s Hospital in Denver. He enjoys family time with his wife and two daughters as well as gardening, golfing and boating. Brian C. Patterson Associate Vice President for Advancement and Alumni Relations bpatterson@grandview.edu 515-263-2829 Brian earned a BA in Graphic Design, Visual Arts, with an emphasis in Communication, in 1995 from Grand View. Brian brings solid experience to the Alumni Office, from ownership of a graphic design firm to chief advancement officer for a private school. He has developed unparalleled dedication to building strong, long-lasting relationships and deepening his passion for success. Brian's off-the-job interests include spending time with his wife and four children, church ministry, travel, sports and photography. Brian looks forward to helping increase the financial support of Grand View by alumni and friends, exploring opportunities for new alumni activities and programs, and supporting the National Alumni Council Parent's Council. Carrie Sponheim Director of Annual Giving csponheim@grandview.edu 515-263-2935 Carrie graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Journalism and Mass Communication in 2007 and stared working in the Admissions Office at Grand View that summer. She loves Grand View and all a private school education has to offer students. Carrie is looking forward to meeting Alumni and hearing all the stories they have to share about Grand View. Katharine Yarnell, Director of Campaign Giving at Grand View University. Katharine served a Lutheran congregation in Kansas from 1995 to 2004. Katharine has a Doctor of Ministry degree from the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago, a Master of Divinity degree from Wartburg Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa, and a Bachelor of Science in Cellular Biology from the University of Western Ontario. Since 1997 she has studied in the Post-Graduate program at the Center for Family Process in Bethesda, Maryland. She enjoys meeting Grand View alumni and friends, and helping them support the school they love.

Katie Ostrem Manager of Alumni and Parent Relations kostrem@grandview.edu 515-263-2957 Katie earned a BA in Business Administration and Mass Communications, with an emphasis in Public Relations in 2006 from Grand View. Katie brings years of event management skills to the Alumni Office from her previous position as a meeting and design consultant for a third-party meeting planning company. Katie’s efficiency and creativity make every event a seamless experience, allowing guests to effectively build lasting relationships. In her free time, she enjoys golfing, playing volleyball and spending times with her friends and family.
Laura Otto Executive Secretary lotto@grandview.edu 515-263-6126 Laura Otto graduated in 2002 from Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa with a B.A. in English Literature. Prior to her employment at Grand View, she taught English conversation classes in Japan and later worked in the Central College Abroad Office in Pella, IA. At Grand View she supervises work study students, maintains calendars for the Vice President and Associate Vice President for Advancement, assists with mailings and events, and makes sure the office is running smoothly. While away from work, she enjoys reading, movies, archery, and spending time with her family.
Margaret McCullough Director of Grants and Advancement Research mmccullough@grandview.edu 515-263-2910 Marge McCullough is a graduate of the University of Michigan, Marge’s early career as a grant funded social science researcher at Michigan, Columbia University and the University of Washington provided her with sound experience for her work as Grand View’s grants writer.
Robert Oxenford Director of Major Gifts and Donor Engagement roxenford@grandview.edu 515-263-2827 Robert is a native to the Des Moines Area and earned his degree in Organizational Studies with an emphasis in Marketing and Communications in 2008 from Grand View. Robert has a deep passion for Grand View and loves to share stories of the campuses evolution over the years and loves seeing how it is evolving today. Robert comes to Grand View after a career in the financial industry since 2001. He also served on the Grand View National Alumni Council for almost three years. In his free time Robert loves to be outdoors, riding bikes, swimming, boating and snowshoeing. He enjoys all of these activities with his wife Heather, who is also a Grand View graduate.
Sage Evans Advancement Database and Records Manager sevans@grandview.edu 515-263-2911 Sage Evans, Advancement Database and Records Manager, earned a BA in Individualized “Philanthropic Studies” with minors in Accounting, Business Administration, and Political Science, in 2003 from Grand View. Sage brings 15 years of fundraising experience to the Advancement office from previous development positions in government, education, and cultural organizations. She blends technology and creativity to create unique data management, systems administration, analysis, and reporting solutions for Grand View University. Sage enjoys spending her holiday traveling internationally, reading, and cooking for her family and friends.
