When Minutes Matter...

While driving to Virginia to visit his son, Carl Raudabaugh of Boiling Springs, Pennsylvania began to experience chest pain. He went directly to FMH, where an interventional cardiologist determined that an angioplasty was needed to reopen his blocked artery. A catheter with a deflated balloon on the end was threaded through a blood vessel to the point of the blockage. There, the balloon was inflated, pushing it against the wall of the artery. This widened the inside of Carl's artery, restoring blood flow. A small mesh tube called a stent was then put in the artery to help keep it open. In just over an hour, Carl was recovering in his hospital room.

"There's no doubt in my mind. Having the angioplasty procedure available at FMH saved my life."

Since Carl's procedure, he and his wife are enjoying life and giving back to the hospital that saved his life through one of the FMH Development Council's giving clubs—The 1902 Club.
