Howard S. Young
Some of you may have known the late Howard S. Young, from Frankfort, or members of his family, but you may not know how generous and forward-thinking Mr. Young was.
Mr. Young's Last Will and Testament established a 25-year Trust upon his death in 1984. The major beneficiaries were the Frankfort Lodge No. 309, The Howard S. and Helen C. Young Scholarship Fund, the United Methodist Church of Austin, and Adena Health System (then known as Ross County Medical Center). Mr. Young left his house and property to the Chillicothe and Ross County Public Library, which is where the Frankfort Branch was established and remains today.
Now that the 25-year period has expired, Adena received 1/3 of the remaining value of the Trust, $76,384, which was deposited in the Foundation's Patient Care Technology Fund, in accordance with Mr. Young's wishes that the funding be used for new medical equipment.
Identical amounts were left to the Church and the Public Library.
Gifts from Wills and Trusts are what we in the fundraising world call "Planned Gifts." Mr. Young's example demonstrates how grateful patients may make planned gifts to the hospital many years from now.
We can only imagine the nurse, the doctor, the volunteer or others at the hospital who cared for Mr. Young and meant so much to him.
