Sample Bequest Language for Support of KCTS Television

The following is intended to help you and your attorney in drafting a bequest that meets your individual interests, but we welcome any further requests for information.

A General Bequest of a stated sum of money may be worded:
"I give to KCTS Television, a Washington nonprofit corporation, or its successor [insert here the exact dollar amount]."

A Specific Bequest of a certain asset from your estate may be worded:
"I give to KCTS Television, a Washington nonprofit corporation, or its successor [insert here a description of the particular property]."

A Residuary Bequest, after other bequests and expenses have been paid, may be worded:
"I give to KCTS Television, a Washington nonprofit corporation, or its successor all [or a portion] of the rest, residue and remainder of my estate."

A Contingent Bequest if the Testator is not survived by certain individuals:
"If [name/s of primary beneficiary/ies] do/es not survive me, or shall die within ninety (90) days from the date of my death, or as a result of a common disaster, then I give to KCTS Television, a Washington nonprofit corporation, or its successor [insert here the exact dollar amount, description of property, or percentage of residual estate]."

You may also wish to include the Federal Tax #: 91-1221895.

Please note: Unrestricted bequest gifts will be added to the KCTS Television endowment unless the donor specifies otherwise. Bequest gifts can also be designated for restricted endowments. If this is of interest, please contact KCTS 9 for more information

DESIGNATION BY PROGRAM AREA
We welcome support of program areas (such as children's education, current affairs, nature documentaries, etc.) and ask only that designations reflect program areas rather than individual shows. For example, if a bequest states that funds are to be designated for the MacNeil/Lehrer NewsHour, KCTS could no longer utilize those funds as the show no longer exists under that name (it is now called "The PBS NewsHour"). In this case, a designation to support current affairs programming would allow the station to continue to create and purchase the kind of programming you have enjoyed.

An example with a Program Area Designation is:
"I give to KCTS Television, a Washington nonprofit corporation, or its successor all [or a portion] of the rest, residue and remainder of my estate for the support of current affairs programming."

BENEFITS OF MEMBERSHIP IN THE KCTS 9 LEGACY CIRCLE
By informing KCTS of your gift, you help us plan for the station's future. You also give us a chance to thank you by inviting you to join our KCTS 9 Legacy Circle. As a member of this group, you will participate in station activities and special events including an annual luncheon with the President of KCTS 9. Confidentiality and anonymity are assured.

Bequests are a key element in providing stability for the future of public television in the Northwest. Thank you for considering naming KCTS Television in your will. If you do so, it would be very helpful if you sent a copy of the portion of the will pertaining to KCTS 9 to:
